CodeLab was invented by David Arnow and Gerald Weiss who have directed and helped with its development since the beginning and to this day. Arnow and Weiss are computer science professors at Brooklyn College which is part of the City University of New York. They have been teaching Computer Science since Jimmy Carter was president, when gigantic IBM mainframes roamed the earth… or at least sat slowly humming to themselves in vast air-conditioned spaces.

Lots of others have made contributions, some of them quite major. Most of these folks were Brooklyn College students or alumni. The other contributors include (in semi-random order): George Medvedkov, Phil Dreizen, Sim Jao, Davis Chen, Michael Squitieri, Mike Bionchik, Steve Silvestri, Michael Goldenberg, Michael Singh, Roumwelle Sta. Ines, Anton Serednyakov, David Grinberg, Charlie Yao, Seth Schacher, Janelle Peterkin, Peter Ginsberg.
